Category 1 – Beginner
You’re new to tennis or have limited experience. You’re learning how to rally, serve, and move confidently on court, while becoming familiar with the rules and scoring. Your focus is on learning the fundamentals and enjoying the game.
Category 2 – Improver / Recreational Player
You can rally and serve but are still developing technique and consistency. You understand the basics of court positioning and tactics and feel most comfortable in a relaxed, social environment. You’re keen to build confidence and improve your all-round game.
Category 3 – Club / Social Player
You play regularly at club or social level and can maintain rallies at a steady pace. You can serve and return consistently, although power and accuracy may vary. You’re improving your volleying, movement, and tactical awareness, and enjoy friendly matches or social competition.
Category 4 – Strong Club Player
You play frequently at club level and can rally with consistency and purpose. You’re confident with the volleys, serves, and returns, and understanding basic match tactics
Category 5 – Advanced (Coach / County Level or Above)
You’re an experienced, high-level player who competes regularly and plays with confidence and precision. Your groundstrokes are powerful and consistent, you use spin and placement to control rallies, and your serve is varied and effective. You’re tactically astute in both singles and doubles.

🎾 Padel Holiday Self-Rating Guide
Category 1 – Beginner
You’re new to padel or have only been on court a few times before. You’re learning the basic strokes, movement, and scoring, and are still developing confidence and consistency in rallies.
Category 2 – Improver / Tennis Background
You may be new to padel but have played tennis for many years, so your basic shot-making is strong. You’re learning padel-specific tactics, walls, and positioning while building consistency.
Category 3 – Intermediate Player
You play regularly and can maintain rallies comfortably. You’re developing your net play, shot variety, and tactical understanding, and enjoy social or friendly competitive matches.
Category 4 – Strong Club Player
You play regularly in competitive club matches or leagues and can rally with high consistency, control, and intent. You can execute the full range of padel shots technically well and use them effectively in match situations. You are confident at the net and can use your serve and return to apply pressure and gain advantage in points. You have a strong understanding of tactical play, including positioning, shot selection, and working as a team in doubles, and can compete effectively against other strong club players.
Category 5 – Advanced / Competitive
You play very regularly and compete in regional tournaments. You have excellent control, strong net play, and high tactical awareness, using a wide range of shots to construct and finish points.
